About GT
A mid-engined supercar constructed by Ford Motor Company, the GT featured V-8 performance allowing it to rival sports cars from Ferrari and Lamborghini. The production car was built as a tribute to the historic Le Mans-winning GT40 sports car of the 1960s. As opposed to the previous car that inspired the supercar, the 2005 Ford GT was primarily designed for road use. Replicating the original vehicles shape with aluminum body panels, the GT supercar was a larger car and was constructed using modern technology.
Anti-lock braking system and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires were part of the Ford GT. Mounted in the mid-section of the Ford GT, a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 energized the vehicle with 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Channeling its eight-cylinder through a six-speed manual transmission towards the rear wheels, acceleration from 0 to 60 miles per hour runs for the supercar was recorded in times as short as 3.3 seconds. Top speed of the Ford GT was electronically limited at 205 mile per hour.
Possessing an overall height of just 44.3 inches, the two-passenger cabin was positioned low to the ground. Leather, painted aluminum and magnesium switches gave the interior of the Ford GT a pure retro feel. A McIntosh audio system was optional equipment inside the performance car filling the small cabin with rich musical sound. Initially sold at a manufacturer suggested retail price of $151,245, the first production model of the Ford GT was purchased at a charity auction for $557,000. Over two years of production, roughly 4,000 examples of the Ford GT supercar were sold.
After making its world debut in mid-September, the seventh-generation Ford Mustang now welcomes its first racing iteration – not the track-only Dark Horse R version. Developed by Ford Performance in cooperation with Dick Johnson Racing, the new Mustang GT Supercar made its first appearance during the practice sessions at the Bathurst 1000. The racer did its first laps around Mount Panorama, and it is intensively preparing for the 2023 Australian Supercars Championship.
Based On The Seventh-Generation Mustang, But More Aggressive
Ford
2023 Ford Mustang Gen 3 GT Supercar comes with an aggressive aero kit
The new Gen3 Mustang GT Supercar closely resembles its road-going counterpart, but it adds a few aerodynamic changes that will make it ready for the track. For example, the front features a new hood with specific vents and a larger splitter. When viewed from the back, it is impossible to miss that huge wing and the new diffuser. On the sides, you'll find extended skirts. After all these changes, the dimensions of the Gen3 Supercar have increased a little. The length goes up to 194.88 inches - from 189.4, while the rear width has been increased to 77 inches [standard 75.4 inches]. The car rides on a special set of 18-inch forged aluminum wheels wrapped in Dunlop Sport Maxx performance tires sized 280/680 R18.
It Comes With An Updated Coyote V-8 Engine

Just like the road-going version Mustang, the new GT Supercar is powered by a Coyote V-8 engine. However, while in the standard car the V-8 displaces 5.0 liters, Ford Performance has increased the displacement to 5.4 liters in the race car. This, combined with a few other updates, has increased the engine's final output to more than 600 horsepower - up from the standard model's 480 horsepower. Torque is also increased to more than 480 pound-feet. The engine sends its power to the wheels via a lever-actuated, sequential shift Xtrac P1293 six-speed transaxle transmission.

The new Mustang GT Supercar has been built by Ford’s homologation team Dick Johnson Racing, and it is set to make its racing debut in 2023 at the Australian Supercars Championship. Next to Dick Johnson Racing, the car will also be raced by Tickford Racing, Grove Racing, Blanchard Racing Team, and Walkinshaw Andretti United. Before that, Dick Johnson will race the car himself during the Bathurst 1000 - a 1,000-kilometer race that will take place on Sunday, October 9, 2022.
"It is fantastic to be able to show, for the very first time globally, the seventh-generation Mustang in racing form," said Mark Rushbrook, Global Director, Ford Performance Motorsports. "The reveal of the Mustang Supercar is the first of many, with Mustang to race in GT3, GT4, NASCAR, and NHRA competition globally. Mustang has been an iconic brand on and off the track for 58 years and its legend will continue around the world. We always say Mustang was born to race, and that is more true today than ever. The Mustang GT Supercar is ready to race in 2023."
