Can I Run GTA 5?

Since GTA 5 first released on the Xbox 360 and PS3, the GTA 5 PC system requirements are extremely low.

Gaming CPUs have come a long way but an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 and AMD Phenom 9850 from over 10 years ago still have the power to run GTA V. That said, an Intel i5-3470 and AMD X8 FX-8350 are needed to meet the GTA 5 PC recommended system requirements.

Similarly, if you're still rocking a 13-year-old Nvidia 9800 GT or AMD HD 4870, the gates of Los Santos will be open to you but stretching for an Nvidia GTX 660 or AMD HD 7870 will offer a much smoother and prettier experience.

You'll also need 4GB of RAM and 72GB of storage space. However, Rockstar recommends that you stretch to 8GB of RAM, and we recommended freeing up 72GB on an SSD.

GTA 5 Update

The latest GTA 5 updateis more often than not found in the game's online mode, GTA Online. The game receives weekly updates that bring new features and items to the mode, as well as performance improvements, bug fixes, and special events.

The most recent GTA Online update has players work alongside Dr. Dre to help steal back his music. Dubbed "The Contract", the new mission arrived on December 15, and added new music to the game. According to Rockstar, The Contract offers a wild and hilarious ride through Los Santos, from the mean streets of Franklins old neighbourhood to the hottest parties in the city, from debaucherous mansions to the offices of the FIB and everywhere in between.

GTA 5 Settings

GTA 5 may be relatively old, debuting on the PC back in 2015, but it's still as popular as the day it launched. At the time of its release, high-end rigs struggled to run the game at High and Ultra settings but recent advancements in CPUs and GPUs have made running GTA 5 much easier.

The open-world of GTA 5 is massive which can lead to long load times. To combat this, we recommend installing GTA 5 on an SSD which will drastically reduce time spent staring at loading screens.

If you're struggling to maintain a stable or high fps count, try switching the anti-aliasing option from MSAA to FXAA or just turn off anti-aliasing completely. Post-FX settings like bloom, HDR lighting, and heat shimmer can also have a big impact on performance. Keeping these settings in particular a step or two below their recommended settings can help with fps gains.

Texture quality has a small impact on performance, so if you want to keep the game looking decent on a lower-end system, you should be able to keep the texture quality relatively high. Turning down Shader Quality has a fairly small impact on the visuals, but can give a boost to performance.
