Which one is the best for gaming? I currently have Core 2 Quad Q6600 and want to upgrade to i3. For example I'm getting 20 FPS on Core 2 Quad, Q6600, 8gb ram and Gigabyte 7770, how much would I get if I upgrade to Core i3 2120? Mar 4, 2013

What game? What is a 7700? Never heard of that GPU.

That was just an example to compare FPS.
Would i3 be better than Quad Core?
Sorry, it's 7770 not 7700

Unless your Q6600 is massively overclocked [3.5Ghz+] then the I3 will likely be a bit faster in all but heavily threaded applications. In those situations the Q6600 might be even or slightly faster than the I3. Going to an I3 will not double your performance and in some games may not make any difference. We need specifics to help you, what games, what resolution do you play at,
etc. Also, do you have a 7750, 7770 or 7790?

Also you never mentioned resolutions. If you are trying 1080p the CPU will make very little difference.

Also can I overclock my Q6600 from stock to 3.0ghz+ with Hyper TX3 EVO CPU cooler? Would that make a difference in gaming? Like from 2.4ghz to 3.0 or 3.2 ghz?

You are definitely playing some CPU heavy titles, particularly Hitman, and Crysis 3. Problem is Crysis 3 hates dual core CPUs, so upgrading to an i3 won't really help you, you'd have to step up to an i5, or consider overclocking your Q6600. Crysis, Far Cry, and Hitman are also very graphically demanding titles, especially if you are playing on higher settings, even at your lower
resolution, a 7770 isn't going to yield the best framerates. Try using MSI Afterburner and use the OSD function to monitor your GPU usage while playing. If you GPU usage reads 99% constantly, then your 7770 is whats holding performance back. If your GPU usage is below 99/100%, then it's probably a CPU bottleneck. In any case with that list of games, I would say try to overclock your Q6600 and see how far that takes you. Upping the CPU clockspeed should net you performance boosts in Hitman and
Crysis 3 if your GPU usage isn't already maxed out.
