Do PhD programs give you a laptop?

What kind of laptop do I need?

The Robinson College of Business does not require students to own a laptop computer. However, many courses that are part of the core curriculum and all Robinson degrees will require students to use computers as part of the classroom experience. Standard software is available for local install on your computer for use in many classes.

It is each students responsibility to ensure his/her laptop is functioning properly and can connect with the universitys wireless network. Many resources are available from Georgia State Technology Services.

Robinson strongly recommends that you do not purchase a Mac or a tablet [i.e., iPad, Kindle] as the primary computer for your coursework. Most business software targets the Microsoft Windows operating system, and this includes many of the software packages used in conjunction with Robinson courses. In many cases the options that allow running software on one of the alternate devices restrict functionality that will complicate your being successful. Navigating those limitations fully would be your responsibility.
