Youll learn how to block words and turn on the profanity filter on your Facebook page in this post.

Lets begin with the latter. Remember, you need to be an admin to follow this post.

For your page, the profanity filter is disabled by default.

When you enable this feature, Facebook blocks posts that contain the most commonly reported words and phrases that the community considers offensive.

Comments containing those words and phrases will be hidden. Only the author and their friends can see those comments.

Follow these steps to turn the feature on:

PC

If youre using a PC, follow these steps:

Sign in to Facebook. Hit your page name in the Your Pages section on the right sidebar.

Find and click Settings on the left sidebar.

The Profanity Filter appears on the right. This one is above Similar Page Suggestions. Click on it.

Select the checkbox. Then click Save Changes.

Thats it.

Note: This feature can be turned off by unchecking the checkbox. Make sure that you save the changes.

Android or iPhone

Open the Facebook app.

Tap the three horizontal dots at the top if youre on Android. Tap the three horizontal dots at the bottom if youre on the iPhone.

Hit your page. Tap the Gear icon in the top right.

Hit General > Content moderation.

Under the Profanity Filter, youll find the following options:

  • Off Turn off the profanity filter.
  • Medium Blocks moderate profanity.
  • Strong Blocks strong profanity.

Pick the one you prefer.

Thats all.

Lets see the steps to block words.

Posts containing the terms specified by youll be blocked.

And the comments containing those words will be hidden. Dont forget that you can unhide those comments if you want.

Remember that up to 1000 words can be specified, and variations of words will be handled by Facebook automatically.

PC

If youre using a PC, follow these steps:

Sign in to Facebook. Hit your page name in the Your Pages section on the right sidebar.

Find and click Settings on the left sidebar.

The Profanity Filter appears on the right. This one is under Age Restrictions. Click on it.

Enter the words, phrases, or emojis you want in the field. You can also upload a CSV file containing these.

Click the Save button.

Thats it.

Note: If you wish to revert, click on the Delete All button to remove all the added words. Make sure you save your changes.

Android or iPhone

Open the Facebook app.

Tap the three horizontal dots at the top if youre on Android. Tap the three horizontal dots at the bottom if youre on the iPhone.

Hit your page. Tap the Gear icon in the top right.

Hit General > Content moderation.

Type the words you want in the Page Moderation section.

Save your changes by hitting the Save Changes button.

Thats it.

Note: If you wish to revert, youll need to remove the words you added and save the changes.
