Stop Bluetooth autoplay

Question: Q: Disable Bluetooth Autoplay in Car

Car's bluetooth auto-plays music/streaming app whenever paired with my device [e.g. if an app such as Podcasts, Pandora, etc., was recently played and still open on my phone, it will play that. If not, it will default to Music app, even though Music was not open or recently playing]. How do I disable this?

I have an iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 13.3

I have endlessly searched specific to the car, but it seems the issue it may be specific to iOS. In my searching, I have seen the same issue with multiple car types, usually with iOS devices.

Hello wifeypoo,

If I'm understanding you right, you have questions regarding your iPhone automatically playing music when you connect it to your car via Bluetooth. I'm happy to hep you out with this.

Many car stereo manufacturers design their stereos to send a playback command from the stereo to whichever media devices [iPhone and non-iPhone] you connect to it so that you aren't listening to silence. While there isn't a way to disable this on your iPhone since it's built into the stereo, it's possible there could be a way to disable it through the stereo itself. I recommend reaching out to your car manufacturer for further assistance with this.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Take care.

Hi Chris_D13, thank you for the reply. I did reach out to the car manufacturer, and it is not a setting that can be changed on the car itself.

I did actually find the answer, since posting this and it was in fact, a setting on the phone itself, not the car. Whether or not that's an intentional design [the solution seems non-related to the issue], it's a setting that fixed the problem.

The resolve is:

Open Settings>Siri & Search, then disable the option "Suggestions on Lock Screen". That's it!

I don't know what else this setting will impact, but so far I haven't noticed any adverse reaction, so it's likely not something I utilize often, if at all.
