2024 Silverado 2500 HD

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD heavy-duty pickup has been revised, restyled, and endowed with greater capability. We expect pricing to start at around $43,000. Nothing stands still. Even in the workaday world of heavy-duty trucks, bars are being raised, antes are being upped, boundaries are being breached. The 2024 Silverado HD answers that call with improvements in several areas. The current (fourth) generation launched for the 2020 model year, so 2024 marks the obligatory mid-cycle revamp. Like its rivals from Ford and Ram, the Silverado HD comes in 2500 and 3500 forms, with a choice of cabs, beds, engines, trims, and abilities. 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Regular Cab PricingWe expect the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD to start at about $43,000, plus a destination charge, for a 2500HD version in Work Truck trim with the Regular Cab and gasoline engine. Higher up the trim level ladder come Custom, LT, LTZ, ZR2 (arriving later) and High Country trims. This latter version is the most luxurious, best-equipped and therefore the most expensive, which could see a final price closer to $90K with options. Because the competition among heavy duty trucks is so fierce, the Ram HD, Ford Super Duty and GMC Sierra HD also start off in the low-to-mid $40K range. Before buying a new Silverado HD truck, check the KBB.com Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area paid for theirs. Traditionally, the GMC Sierra HD has enjoyed excellent resale values. Chevrolet’s regular new-vehicle warranties are for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles, but the diesel engine in the 2024 Silverado HD extends that mileage to 100,000. Driving ImprovementsAdaptive cruise control becomes available in the 2024 Silverado HD, with the ability to take the specific challenges of a trailer into account — such as the extra drag and the longer braking distances required. Trailer-related technology in general gets a boost for this refreshed Silverado HD. The cool “transparent trailer” feature (a camera system allowing the driver to “see through” the trailer) has been enhanced to work with gooseneck and fifth-wheel setups. Blind-spot monitoring extends its field of vision to include whatever’s being towed. And drivers can now be made aware if they’re exceeding the gross combined weight rating (GCWR). Pairing a 10-speed automatic transmission with the gasoline V8 (replacing a 6-speed unit) results in a better chance of finding the ideal gear when towing, as well as finer control on downhill stretches, and keeping the engine’s powerband in its sweet spot. More attention has been paid to the optional 6.6-liter turbocharged diesel V8, raising output by 25 horsepower and torque by 65 lb-ft. However, both the Ford Super Duty and Ram HD offer more muscular diesel engines. Towing ability improves by 500 pounds to a maximum of 36,000 pounds. Yet again, the Silverado HD is outdone by its rivals, but that’s still a considerable weight and quite likely sufficient for most buyers of heavy-duty trucks. The diesel V8’s maximum thrust of 975 lb-ft comes in at just 1,600 rpm, so it will get a big trailer moving with relative ease. It’s the 2024 Silverado 3500HD that does the really hard work. In addition to that maximum towing figure (made possible by the diesel engine), this variant is also capable of handling a 7,290-pound payload (Regular Cab, gasoline V8, rear-wheel drive, dual rear wheels). Heavy-duty trucks usually have their suspensions tuned to be at their most composed with a load on board, but we’ve found this current-generation Silverado HD more than bearable. For the last word in comfort, though, the Ram HD has an adaptive air suspension available. Upgraded InteriorEven though Chevrolet says all models of the 2024 Silverado HD truck range have updated interiors, the greatest changes happen in the LT trim and up. They gain a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a generously sized 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen. This latter display is angled slightly toward the driver, along with most controls. A new center console in these upper trims allocates a space for wireless smartphone charging. And a spot for sunglasses is hidden behind the infotainment screen. The Regular Cab has one row of seating, but that’s roomy enough for three occupants. The Double Cab brings in another 3-spot bench for rear passengers. And the Crew Cab enhances rear legroom to an abundant 43.3 inches, which is about the same as the larger cabs of the Ford Super Duty and Ram HD. The most affordable Work Truck trim is exactly that — no frills and materials chosen to endure tough conditions. At the other end is the lavishly-appointed High Country trim. In between is a selection with increasing amounts of standard equipment and eligibility for options. Redesigned Front EndA tidying up of the front end and tweaked headlights are the more obvious fruits of this mid-generation refresh applied to the 2024 Silverado HD truck lineup. The higher trims gain LED headlights with dual projectors. Look a little closer to discover the word Chevrolet in upper-case letters adorning the hood scoop. Tow hooks are now standard. And fresh colors this year are Sterling Gray, Dark Ash, Auburn Metallic, Lakeshore Blue Metallic, and Meteorite Metallic. A new Midnight Edition package for the top High Country trim satisfies the current trend for blacked-out exterior details. This version also offers retractable side steps with LED lighting. Nice touches from the previous years are carried over, such as the bed steps on the sides and in the rear bumper. Cab styles remain as Regular, Double or Crew. Bed lengths are standard (82.3 inches/6.9 feet) or long (98.3 inches/8.2 feet). The Regular cab comes solely with the long bed. Favorite Features1. Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto 2.

Alaskan Snow Plow Special Edition Choice of Two EnginesAlthough the 401-horsepower 6.6-liter gasoline V8 in the 2024 Silverado HD hasn’t been updated, it’s now connected to a new 10-speed automatic transmission. The turbocharged diesel V8, however, bumps output to 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque (up from 445 and 910). The result is a higher maximum towing figure, an increase of 500 pounds to 36,000 pounds. For comparison, the Ford Super Duty and Ram HD rivals can handle at least 37,000 pounds. This diesel V8 is also paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is the basic configuration, regardless of engine, with 4-wheel drive offered across the lineup. 6.6-liter
V8 6.6-liter turbocharged diesel V8 KBB Vehicle Review and Rating MethodologyOur Expert Ratings come from hours of both driving and number crunching to make sure that you choose the best car for you. We comprehensively experience and analyze every new SUV, car, truck, or minivan for sale in the U.S. and compare it to its competitors. When all that dust settles, we have our ratings. We require new ratings every time an all-new vehicle or a new generation of an existing vehicle comes out. Additionally, we reassess those ratings when a new-generation vehicle receives a mid-cycle refresh — basically, sprucing up a car in the middle of its product cycle (typically, around the 2-3 years mark) with a minor facelift, often with updates to features and technology. Rather than pulling random numbers out of the air or off some meaningless checklist, KBB’s editors rank a vehicle to where it belongs in its class. Before any car earns its KBB rating, it must prove itself to be better (or worse) than the other cars it’s competing against as it tries to get you to spend your money buying or leasing. Our editors drive and live with a given vehicle. We ask all the right questions about the interior, the exterior, the engine and powertrain, the ride and handling, the features, the comfort, and of course, about the price. Does it serve the purpose for which it was built? (Whether that purpose is commuting efficiently to and from work in the city, keeping your family safe, making you feel like you’ve made it to the top — or that you’re on your way — or making you feel like you’ve finally found just the right partner for your lifestyle.) We take each vehicle we test through the mundane — parking, lane-changing, backing up, cargo space and loading — as well as the essential — acceleration, braking, handling, interior quiet and comfort, build quality, materials quality, reliability.
