just got the 22 Forester..

Things i love is plenty

- AWD..

- Eyesight. not perfect but it works!

- Starlink remote start is awesome.. although i havent been to anywhere with spotty connection or no connections [somehow never have service in Costco LOL]

more stuff to love but.....

lets get to what i dont like lol

-Seatbelts warning - HOLY CRAP - cant even move my car out my driveway without it beeping like crazy. read a thread where you can disable this. can anyone help me if this will effect anything other than the warning sound??

- Downshifting or when im just cruising 5-10mph, foot off the gas.. i really dont know how to explain it but i also see this discussed on other thread. seems like an AWD thing. call it laggy or not smooth.. but definitely noticeable for me LOL

- i had a 2016 Hyundai that comes with auto battery kill if you leave a light on or something... i was surprised when i saw my lights on after it parked for 2hrs.. luckily didnt need a jump.

any cool/bad things i should know about forester? do share

thanks all!!!

You're in 22 WRX price territory.

My wife has a 21 Forester Touring. I was never really that into the Forester. Then my wife got this one and OMG I love this thing. It feels roomy with the height of the car but still feels like it behaves like a smaller crossover. Then engine is peppy for a natural Subaru 4 cylinder. If you're tall, I think you will appreciate the Forester.

That said, I have never owned a Crosstrek but have been inside a few. I like them too, and as someone single, you are probably fine with the smaller interior space. And yes, Crosstrek def gets the fun colors of the family.

Both are great cars. Both hold their value.

This isn't an indictment of the design, but I did have to pull up a pic of the current model just to see what the changes were side-by-side.

And this is the regular Crosstrek, right? As in, the Wilderness Edition will have even more cladding?

level 2

So far there is no Winderness Crosstrek. If there is one it will be a hiking boot looking thing.

I own the current model and I had to look hard at the front to see the headlights were different.

That screen Subaru uses is an abomination made much sadder by the fact that they have some of the worst-performing car audio in the business so you’ve got to jump through hoops to get decent sound now compared to when you could just pull the head unit and swap it relatively easily.

level 2

I was the manager and lead installer for a car audio shop during covid. Subaru and Toyota factory speakers are easily the worst door speakers I've ever seen. The magnet on those things is half an inch thick and about the diameter of a half dollar.

You could really tell that they didn't put any effort into them at all

level 2

My outback touring trim speakers are incredible.

We were given a more base model Outback during a vacation recently and I couldn’t believe how dog shit the speakers were. Really awful.

level 2

My mom has a Forester she bought new. Had it for a few weeks and she wanted to show me the sound system when I came back to their house. She thought it was amazing. I immediately noticed the directionality was all wrong and too quiet. Everything behind the rear doors were not working.

I hate that screen. Thought it was cool at first until I realized it was absolutely useless.

Curious if the Impreza will get a similar update

level 2

I wouldn't be surprised if a new Impreza doesn't make it to North America. The Crosstrek outsells it by a huge margin.

level 2

I’d say so, it’s fundamentally the same car.

Fan of the exterior update.

Not so much a fan of the tablet. The crosstrek feels like it should be about functional design and something you can use with gloves on, not some big phablet that makes it hard to look and see where you need to tap to turn up or down the AC.

Curious if the engines got an update. The 2.5 liter feels like it should just be the standard engine.

level 2

It seems like the 2.0 will be replaced with something else, maybe the 1.8T? [Though that would also be more powerful than the up-level 2.5NA].
I think the styling still needs time to grow on me, as I auctally liked the more conservative Subaru designs of the mid-late 2010s.

level 2

Yeah their phablet is atrocious, it’s so unfortunate they’re choosing to put it in every model but I get why they’re doing it, saves a lot of money I’m sure but it’s a laggy POS.

level 2

That tablet will sell cars though. 'Average' customers will be extremely wow'd by it and you can usually get a sale on emotion.

level 2

The AC controls are physical buttons on the side. You can feel and use them with gloves, it's the same system as the Outback.
