Laneige water sleeping pack ex review

While I’m a fan of pretty much every skincare product out there, masks hold a special place in my heart. For years, I treated my skin to exfoliating masks, charcoal formulas and clay variants but I’ve only tried one hydrating mask out. Crazy, right? Since my skin has been particularly dry and finicky this year, I decided to purchase the famed Laneige Water Sleeping Mask. Here is my review.

The mask comes in an ombré, blue jar with a screw-on cap. Usually, jars put me off as it requires one to dip their hands into the formula [which causes so much contamination!] but this mask comes with a tiny spatula to prevent that issue. The packaging is double-walled and weighted, which makes it seem luxurious and sturdy at the same time. The ingredients and directions for use are mentioned on the back of the jar as well as on the accompanying box.

Speaking of the ingredients, this formula is jam-packed with some incredible ones. Sodium hyaluronate and glycerin work to hydrate the skin, while beta-glucan tackles signs of irritation. Cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone, which are silicones, prevent water loss and are responsible for the texture of the mask. The formula also contains ascorbyl glucoside, a water-soluble form of vitamin C that helps with pigmentation, and zinc sulfate, which has proven to be effective for mild-to-moderate acne. The only downside to the entire ingredient list is the addition of fragrance.

Since this is a sleeping mask, I applied it as the last step in my nighttime routine. While I expected the formula to be thick and occlusive, it was surprisingly lightweight. The gel-like consistency allowed the mask to spread easily across my skin and imparted a cooling sensation. In a few minutes, it dried down completely to a matte finish, without leaving behind a sticky film as many masks do. I truly appreciated this as I hate it when my skincare ends up more on my pillowcase than on my face! A little goes a long way with this formula so be sure to only scoop out a small amount. The added fragrance is definitely noticeable at first but dissipates quickly.

As instructed, I left the mask on overnight and woke up to healthier skin. In just one use, my skin looked plumper and felt more hydrated. Over time, I’ve noticed that I no longer wake up to flaky patches on my cheeks, which is a big win. Another major plus point is that this mask hasn’t triggered my acne at all. I would still recommend carrying out a patch test before applying it all over but hopefully, you shouldn’t face a problem. It hasn’t really helped with my hyperpigmentation but honestly, I wasn’t expecting it to.

Weightless, hydrating and refreshing, this sleeping mask is one that will work for most skin types, barring those that are sensitive to fragrance. Those with combination-to-oily skin can use it in place of their nighttime moisturiser, while dry-skinned folks like me can layer it over their hydrating serums and creams. I’ve been applying it twice a week and have no regrets about this purchase!

If you are on the hunt for a product that will leave your skin feeling hydrated, bouncy and gleaming with life, then you’re in the right place, my friend!

Today, I’m sharing my thoughts on the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask – a product that will give your skin that instant bounce and pick-me-up… oodles of freshness and hydration, without any greasiness [sounds like a dream, right?!]

Is The Hype Real? – LANEIGE WATER SLEEPING MASK | Review

I have the most complicated skin type – dry, dehydrated and acne-prone, so I’ve always struggled to find a moisturiser that works for my skin type and its concerns…often creams are too thick and break me out and other times gel moisturisers only give my skin hydration for a couple of hours and then my skin starts to feel tight and dry again.

On a trip to Hong Kong a few months back, I came across the Laneige counter at SaSa and the SA convinced me to try out the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask [bless the girl!] and it has become my favourite skincare product! Read on to know why 🙂

Now, you must be wondering – ‘What exactly is a Sleeping Mask and How Does It Work?‘

As the name would suggest, a sleeping mask is a face pack that packs tons of hydration and moisture into your skin while you sleep 🙂 These types of masks are ideally used at night as the last step in your skincare routine and they seal all the moisture in your skin and therefore help to alleviate dullness and unevenness from your skin. When you wake up the next morning, you will notice that your skin feels hydrated, moist, plump and super bouncy … aka ‘chok chok’ in Korean terminology!

LANEIGE WATER SLEEPING MASK | Review

The Laneige Water Sleeping Mask is a gel-type overnight mask that moisture recharges and deeply hydrates your skin as you sleep. It absorbs quickly into the skin and you wake up looking like you had the best sleep, even on days when you snoozed for only a couple of hours.

Here’s how Laneige explains the technology in their product:

Sleep-Tox™ A purification technology to help calm skin from damage and external stressors that skin suffers during the day. Antioxidant-rich Hunza Apricot and Evening Primrose work throughout the night to purify fatigued skin.

Hydro Ionized Mineral Water Formulated with 6 moisture-maximizing minerals—zinc, manganese, magnesium, sodium, calcium and potassium—that are ionized and stabilized in water to penetrate quicker and deeper into skin. It provides Natural Moisturizing Factors [NMF], similar to skin’s own moisturizing agents, to circulate and retain long-lasting moisture.

Moisture Wrap™ An exclusive technology that features a mineral network of moisture-rich beta-glucan to form an 8-hour time-release moisturizing layer over skin. It locks in active ingredients and mineral water.

Packaging

As you can see, the product is housed in a gradient blue jar with a twist lid. There is 70ml of product in the glass jar, so you get a lot for your money’s worth here. The jar feels heavy and sturdy and even the cap [which is made from plastic] screws tight, so you don’t have to worry about product leakage if you’re travelling with it [though it’s not travel-friendly…too heavy in my opinion].

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask – Packaging

There’s a seal protecting the sleeping mask and once you open the lid and break the seal, you can see the product underneath. I love how there is a spatula [for scooping out product] provided separately in the packaging…so no need for dipping your fingers or nails directly into the jar.

However, I wish they had given a separate lid to cover the product and keep it separated from the actual lid once you break the seal open…I hate it when things get into the lids and caps of skincare packaging!

Texture and Smell

Like I said before, this sleeping mask has a gel texture. I know, it’s so strange, because it’s not watery or runny whatsoever, like the name ‘water mask’ would suggest 🙂

LANEIGE WATER SLEEPING MASK | Texture

Although, to be honest, I really enjoy the light gel texture – it’s just the right consistency, not too thick, neither too light.

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask – Spread evenly

In terms of scent, this sleeping mask has a very calming and mild scent – it almost smells like chamomile and I really enjoy that soothing scent because it just helps me sleep better too!

How To Use

Use the spatula to scoop out product. Apply evenly across the face. Leave it overnight and rinse off in the morning. I like to apply a thick layer and also take it all the way down my neck and on my hands [remember – you age the fastest on your hands and neck, so be liberal!]. I would recommend using it twice a week 🙂

My Thoughts on the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

After months of using this sleeping mask, I can guarantee that this is WORTH THE HYPE!
