Cannot Establish Remote Desktop Connection

    Dear all,

I have two machines, both with Windows 7 Professional installed with all updates installed. They both have ample memory and are on the same LAN in same IP address range and can ping each other. Both have firewalls temporarily disabled, and remote desktop enabled. One machine had a few Group Policy changes that affected RDP, but these have since been returned to "Not Configured" state.

With all of this in mind, can anyone suggest why I can RDP from one machine to the other, but can't establish a connection the other way? The machine that cannot be connected to is the one that used to have restrictive group policy.

    Thanks

    Hi,

What is the precise error message that occurs when you attempt to connect?

What are the specific group policy settings that you believe were/are causing an issue?

Regarding the Group Policy changes, I didn't log them, I just removed them. They prevented the selection of "Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop [less secure]", somewhere in the section:

    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Security

    Hi,

Check PortNumber registry value to make sure it is set to 0x00000d3d [3389] It is under HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\terminal server\winstations\rdp-tcp

Check that Remote Desktop Services is Running in services.msc
