2023 GLC 43

And few SUVs deliver like the GLC, one of the top-selling Mercedes-Benz vehicles. For 2023, we launch an all-new version, with striking new looks inside and out, an electrified engine, ingenious new technologies, and features that make driving more enjoyable than ever.

Beneath the hood is a new 4-cylinder engine with an integrated starter-generator, an innovation that adds intervals of power to an already muscular drive. This feature also delivers hybrid levels of fuel efficiencyDisclaimer[5], allowing the vehicle to “sail,” or drive without calling on the combustion engine.

Agile handling further enhances the ride, through a suspension that provides the foundation for all-around comfort. The GLC delivers a more spacious interior than its predecessors and new levels of noise comfort, thanks to both improved aerodynamics and bodyshell and windshield insulation. Standard luxuries include large media displays, wireless charging, heated front seats, ambient lighting and biometric authentication.

Also standard is the latest version of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system, which uses artificial intelligence to help control vehicle functions in several ways, including Voice Control and Touch Control. It’s now more intuitive than ever, understanding a greater array of natural language commands using its “Hey Mercedes” function. The latest Driver Assistance featuresDisclaimer[6], including a 360-degree Surround View SystemDisclaimer[7] for effortless parking, round out this formidable advance in intelligence.

But for all these refinements and luxuries, this GLC was designed for riding the rough. In its 4MATIC variantDisclaimer[8], the SUV includes Downhill Speed Regulation and an off-road driving mode as standard. In this mode, the GLC’s Surround View SystemDisclaimer[7] enables a “transparent hood,” giving the driver a virtual view under the front of the vehicle so rocks and holes can be navigated in advanceDisclaimer[9]. It’s capability taken to a new level altogether.

In the past few months Mercedes has been very busy testing the new generation GLC. Back in June, our spy photographers caught the GLC Coupe out for a first testing session, while earlier in August the AMG GLC 63 was caught playing around Nurburgring. Today is GLC43/53 Coupe's turn to begin testing. Our spy photographers caught the first prototype out on the streets of Germany. In fact, this should come as no surprise considering the standard GLC43/53 has been testing since April 2022.

Whats in a Name?

First, let’s clear the name. For now, it is unclear if the AMG version of the new generation GLC will receive the 43 or the 53 monikers. Both names have been in the talks for the upcoming AMG versions of the C-Class. And since the GLC is basically the crossover version of the C-Class, it will also borrow its nomenclature. Recent rumors suggest the company will go with the AMG 53 nomenclature, but we can't tell for sure.

H2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43/53 Updates

While the regular GLC Coupe will look more elegant than the regular version, the AMG version will have a sportier appearance. The model will get the traditional Panamericana grille, bigger air intakes, a wider track and wider side sills, plus a bigger rear spoiler. Even if camouflaged for now, there will also be a diffuser in the back. The crossover will ride on bigger wheels, but when compared to the more powerful 63 model, it lacks the massive brakes. Of course, they will still be bigger and better than on the regular GLC. Also, the GLC 43/53 Coupe will be offered with round quad exhaust pipes and not squared ones like on the top model.

On the inside, the AMG version will add a sportier steering wheel and sport seats with more side support. While in the CLG 63 the bucket seats will be offered as standard, in the 43 they will come as an option.

What will power the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43/53?

It is the same powertrain used in the recently launched C43 where it delivers 402 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.
