Can you reinstall a camera driver?

The steps below can be used to manually uninstall and reinstall the camera drivers for USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and FireWire cameras. To update or re-install the driver, without first uninstalling, skip ahead to step 5.

Uninstalling the Camera Driver

1] Go to Device manager and locate the PixeLINK camera, which can normally be found under Imaging Devices: 

2] Right click on the camera and select Uninstall

3] Select the checkbox to Delete the Driver completely from camera on the popup window.

This will uninstall the Pixelink driver from the camera. If prompted by your computer to restart, please restart to update the changes.

4] If third party software that supports the USB3.0 Vision Standard or IEEE 1394 standard is installed, the camera may be picked up by this software:

Otherwise, the device will appear under Other devices, as seen below. Note, you may need to disconnect and reconnect the camera for it to appear:

Re-installing the Camera Driver

5] In order to restore the Pixelink driver, right click on the camera in Device Manager, and select Update Driver software.

6] On the new window, select Browse my computer for Driver software.

7] Enter the directory path for your camera driver, in the window below:

The directory paths for the drivers [for 64-bit Windows] are:

  • USB 3.0, with Pixelink Capture v10.5 and newer:  C:\Program Files [x86]\PixeLINK\Install\USB3x64\DefaultDriver
  • USB 3.0, with Pixelink Capture v10.4 and earlier: C:\Program Files [x86]\PixeLINK\Install\USB3x64\R10

  • USB 2.0:  C:\Program Files [x86]\PixeLINK\Install\USBx64

  • FireWire:  C:\Program Files [x86]\PixeLINK\Install\FWx64

8] Click Next to install the camera driver.

Reinstalling the camera driver manually

NOTE: An error message may appear if you attempt to use your IASLab device immediately after launching the software and before Windows has had time to recognize the driver. Before undertaking reinstallation of the driver, you might want to try the following:

THE FIRST THING TO TRY:

  1. Close the IASLab software.
  2. Unplug the IASLab unit from your PC.
  3. Wait 30 seconds and plug the IASLab back in.
  4. Wait an additional 30 seconds to allow Windows to install the device.
  5. Start the IASLab software.

If this does not overcome the problem, continue with the instructions for reinstalling the driver manually.

REINSTALLING THE DRIVER:

Note: If you get the error message “[IASLab] Application has stopped working” with a new installation on Windows 7 or higher, the camera driver may be blocked by Windows. In this case, you will need to temporarily disable “Driver Signature Enforcement.”

To reinstall the camera driver:

  1. Unplug your IASLab device from your PC.
  2. Open the device manager
    • Go to Start Menu | Control panel | System.
    • Click on Device Manager in the left-hand column.

    • The Device Manager window, looking something like this, will open:
  1. Plug your IASLab device into a USB 2.0 port.
  2. Two new devices should appear in the Device Manager window:
    1. A camera under Imaging Devices / Sentech Devices
    2. A USB Host Adapter… under [IASLab] Devices / 1-wire Devices [Cameras]
  3. If either of these devices is missing look for an Unknown Device listed under Other Devices, and do the following:
    1. Right-click on the device and select Update Driver Software.
    2. Select Browse my computer for driver software.
    3. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
    4. Click on Have disk.
    5. Click on Browse.
      1. Browse to the application folder [Usually C:\Program Files\QEA\[IASLab device]].
      2. Open the Drivers folder and select StUSB.inf.
      3. Click Open.
      4. Click OK.
      5. If prompted, click Continue Anyway.
    6. Repeat these steps for any other unknown devices.
  4. Verify that the two devices described in Step 4 are properly installed and that there are no warnings symbols [“ ! ”] next to their names in the Device Manager.
  5. Restart the IASLab software.
