Link 641 email already in use

If you receive an error message (such as, "Google Account already exists") as you're trying to set up your first Google administrator account, it means that the email address is already associated with another Google service (such as an AdWords account). This is called a conflict account, and you will need to use a different email address to set up an administrator account and verify your domain for your Google service.

Follow these steps to work around the conflicting account during sign up:

  1. Sign up for your Google service with a new username at your domain.
    • You should have access to this email address at your domain. Make sure that it isn't already associated with an AdWords or another Google Account.
  2. After you sign up for your Google service, you will receive a confirmation email. Click the link in the email to set up your first administrator account. Enter the new username from step 1 as the initial administrator.
  3. Follow the sign up directions to verify your domain.
  4. After you've verified your domain, you can create an administrator account using the original email address (where you received the error message) and remove admin privileges from the first Google administrator you set up.
  5. You can now add additional users and manage your domain.

After you've set up your domain, we recommend you resolve your conflicting account.

Question

While trying to add a new support address or a user as staff, I get the error This email address is already used by [user]. What does this mean?

Answer

It is possible that this user has already been added as an end user. You must run a search to confirm if this user already has an account. Also, an email address cannot be used both as a support address and as an identity for an agent or end user. To use the email address as a support address, you must detach it from the user it is currently associated with.

Steps to resolve

  1. Click the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner and search for the email address in question.
  2. On the search results page, click Users.
  3. Click on the user or email, which will bring you to the profile page for that user.
  4. Choose one of the following actions:
      • Change the email address associated with the user to another address within the user's profile. If this is a legitimate user, make sure to use a valid email address at which they can receive an email. For a demonstration of how to change a user's email address, see the following video:
  •
    • Delete the user. If the user exists for testing purposes or is not a legitimate end user or agent, remove the profile. This will make the email address available again as a support address.
    • If you're trying to add a user as staff, change the user from End user to Staff member under User type.

Once you have updated or removed the user, you can use the email address as a support address.

Fortunately, there are a couple of options available to allow you to create a new account with the email address you wish to use.

  1. Change your email address. You can append a plus sign (+) and any combination of words or numbers after your email address either on your existing account or your the new account you are creating.

For example, if your email address is you could set up your email address on a second Alchemer account as sorceress+. Both email addresses will deliver any mail to .

  2. Cancel the account. If this error is the result of an unused, trial/free account that is using the email address you wish to use for your new account, you can delete the account. Note: Accounts flagged for deletion will be deleted after 10 days.

If you're unsure of the password, use the Forgot your password? on the login page in order to login and delete the account.

Adding Users

If you encounter the "That email address is already in use..." error while attempting to add a user to your account, this means that the email address is already associated with a Alchemer user.

Depending on the user's need/preference, they will need to either update the email address that they are using for the other account, or provide you with another email to use for the account to which you are adding them. Contact our support team if none of these solutions is an option for you!
