It is difficult to tell otherwise when I am out and about. However, the pockets make it easy to produce or display ID. It has a formal or tactical appearance and can pair with most of your clothing choices. I am 5'8" and 175lbs. I chose the large. It fits great, but if anything, it is a hair to the big side. In order to keep everything covered, I would likely not consider going to anything smaller. It actually has a lower back side to cover you when you bend forward. The only downside was the main zipper. In December 2016 one of the teeth came off. 5.11 and Amazon honored the warranty and remedied the problem. Nice fit, cut loose, and has a longer back that covers you nicely while moving around/bending. These are american sizes so they run on the bigger size. I have had my original for 2 years now with no issues on seams, pilling, or zippers.
