For the past 25 years, the Honda CR-V has been the best-selling crossover in America. Subsequently, its sixth generation version revealed for the 2023 model year promises to take its fundamental characteristics of comfort, practicality, and reliability to the next level. In addition to a complete overhaul of its exterior design, the cabin of the new CR-V has also undergone tremendous improvements. What's more, the 6th generation of this compact SUV is now 2.7-inch longer than the previous version, allowing it to have a 1.6-inch longer wheelbase. Also, it gets an additional width of 0.4-inch. All of this translates into a more spacious cabin.

In terms of comfort, the 2023 Honda CR-V comes with new body stabilizing front seats and a steering wheel that has been angled to offer a sedan-like driving experience. In addition, the front seats come as standard with 8-way power adjustments, while the front passenger seat provides 4-way powered adjustments in the higher grades. Finally, the center console bin between the front seats offers nine liters of storage space which Honda says is the best in class.

Further increasing the practicality aspect of the new CR-V are its rear seats which offer eight angles of recline and the option of 60/40 split seat backs. This SUV has a total luggage capacity of 36.3 cu-ft. Furthermore, in its non-hybrid versions, the boot floor can be extended downwards, increasing the capacity up to 39.3 cu-ft. With the rear seats completely folded down, the luggage spaces can be expanded to 76.5 cu-ft.

The New CR-V Offers Enhanced Infotainment And Connectivity

In addition to being comfortable and practical, one of the other most important aspects of a family SUV is that it should offer a decent infotainment/connectivity package. The 2023 Honda CR-V scores very well on this particular front. To illustrate, it comes standard with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play connectivity. In addition, this SUV's EX-L and Sport Touring grades come with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The cabin of the new CR-V offers plenty of storage and charging options for the smartphones of your entire family. For instance, the center tunnel has a designated space to keep two smartphones side by side and close to a USB-A and a USB-C charging port, both of which are illuminated. The 2023 Honda CR-V Is Now More Powerful And Capable

With this 6th generation update, Honda has completely revised the engine line-up of the CR-V. This SUV's Sport and Sport Touring trims now come with a new 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle gasoline-hybrid engine. This unit is paired directly to two electric motors. The combined power output of this setup is 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. Honda says they have refined this system to offer a smoother driving experience compared to the previous generation CR-V hybrid.

What's interesting to note here is that thanks to this more powerful engine, the Honda CR-V, for the first time now, offers a towing capacity of up to 1,000 pounds.

The EX and the EX-L trims of the new CR-V come with an updated version of the 1.5-liter, turbocharged gasoline engine. This unit produces 190 horsepower along with 179 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a CVT automatic transmission. Honda says they have improved this engine and transmission combination to reduce noise and vibration levels.

The new CR-V has a revised all-wheel-drive system available on all its grades but is standard on the Sport Touring. What further increases this system's capability is that it can now send up to 50 percent of the engine's torque to the rear wheels. Adding to this is the convenience of the newly introduced Hill Descent Control. While the cherry on top is the drive modes (Normal/Sport/Snow/ECON) which alter vehicle dynamics depending upon driving conditions.

EPA is yet to declare the fuel-efficiency figures of the 2023 Honda CR-V. That said, we are hopeful that they will be a decent improvement over this SUV's previous generation.

The 2023 Honda CR-V Has A Higher Safety Standard

The new CR-V promises to offer better safety levels for its occupants relative to the previous generation, thanks to significant improvements in its body structure. In addition, it now comes with next-generation airbags, further enhancing its safety quotient.
