Majority, most of or plurality, có nghĩa tiếng việt tương tự nhau nhưng cách dùng khác nhau khi dùng trong câu tiếng anh ứng với từng ngữ cảnh.
Majority, most of or plurality:
Majority có nghĩa: đa số, phần lớn. Theo sau majority thường có giới từ "of" .
[Đa số những người mẹ trẻ phụ thuộc vào đồng lương của chồng mình].
Khi majority không có giời từ "of" theo sau, ta có thể dùng động từ theo sau nó với hình thức số ít hoặc số nhiều.
The silent majority was/ were in favour of the proposal.
[Đa số thầm lặng ủng hộ bản đề nghị].
Nhưng nếu ta dùng "the majority of" với một danh từ hay đại từ số nhiều theo sau, thì động từ phải ở hình thức số nhiều.

[Đa số dân chúng cảm thấy bị đe dọa bởi sự thay đổi].
Most of có nghĩa: hầu hết, đa số, ám chỉ đến mức độ lớn nhất về quy mô hay số lượng.
Most of the forest has been cut down.
[Hầu hết khu rừng đã bị đốn hạ].
Plurality cũng có nghĩa: số lớn, đa số tương đối. Về bầu cử, trong các cuộc kiểm phiếu, người ta dễ dùng lộn giữa majority và plurality. Majority là đa số tuyệt đối còn plurality là đa số tương đối.
