Ford Explorer 2024

Ford Explorer 2024

Here’s a first look at the ’24 Ford Explorer ST while testing in Dearborn.

Ford will launch an Electric Explorer in 2024, but in the meantime, ICE Explorers will get a nip/tuck. Up front, we can see that the Explorer ST will gain a slightly more aggressive look, with larger openings lurking below a revised grille and all-new headlights. Around back, we expect to see revised taillights that have a similar appearance to the recently shown Chinese Explorer. Inside, the Explorer should get an updated interior with a horizontally mounted display screen.

Powertrain changes aren’t expected, but the 3.0L EcoBoost may get a slight bump in power. Currently the Explorer ST is rated at 400 hp and 415 lb.-ft. of torque, it wouldn’t be surprising if those numbers rise by 3%–5%.

Expect to see the refreshed Explorer ST in 2023.

2024 Ford Explorer ST spied with a minor facelift

And if you didn't already know, Ford will launch an electric Explorer that same model year

Our spy photographers — automotive paparazzi, if you will — captured some shots of the 2024 Ford Explorer ST being tested in Dearborn, Michigan recently. And while Ford also plans to release an electric Explorer in 2024, it’s the internal-combustion-engine version in the images below.

The 2024 Explorer will receive a minor refresh that adds somewhat of a more aggressive look; it’s got larger openings below its revised grille, as well as all-new headlights. It’s expected to also have revised taillights, similar to those seen on the recently released images of the refreshed 2023 Explorer headed to the Chinese market.

If the Chinese-market Explorer is a glimpse of what’s to come to North America in 2024, there will also be a new widescreen, horizontally-mounted infotainment system — as opposed to the outgoing portrait touchscreen — that stretches to the passenger’s side.

The ICE powertrain, a specially tuned 3.0L EcoBoost V6, is expected to remain unchanged. However, slight bumps in power are likely to be seen; the current model produces 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque on 93 octane.

It’s expected the refreshed 2024 Ford Explorer ST will make its official debut in 2023.
