Next-generation E Class 2023

A prototype for a redesigned Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been spotted testing again, in sedan guise.

The current E-Class arrived for the 2017 model year and was given a mid-cycle update for 2021. In Mercedes tradition, the redesigned E-Class should arrive in 2023 as a 2024 model.

It appears the design is taking on a more dynamic look, as the roof line looks a little more sloped at the rear than on the current model. With rumors that both the CLS-Class and GT 4-Door Coupe aren't getting replacements, perhaps designers were free to make the E-Class look a bit sportier.

The platform is the updated version of Mercedes' MRA rear-wheel-drive architecture that debuted in the 2021 S-Class and has since appeared under the 2022 C-Class. The updated platform benefits from weight savings, primarily through increased use of aluminum over steel. This has been made possible due to advanced joining technologies, including aluminum-to-steel welding.

The platform hasn't been designed to fit battery-electric powertrains, though electrified powertrains should be used across the range, including for the eventual E 63 from AMG. The E 63 could potentially end up with the same V-8-based hybrid system that debuted in the 2023 GT 63S E Performance 4-Door Coupe. The system can deliver a max 843 hp and 1,033 lb-ft of torque. However, there have also been rumors the next E 63 might downsize to a 4-cylinder, just like the next C 63.

Given that Mercedes just launched the 2023 EQE electric sedan, and has made a commitment to a full-electric lineup by 2030, this will probably be the last E-Class to feature internal-combustion engines.

A redesigned E-Class Wagon should also be coming, both in regular and All-Terrain guises. Don't look for another generation of the two-door E-Class variants, though. Mercedes is preparing a new CLE-Class to replace both the C-Class and E-Class coupe and convertible models. It should debut about the same time as the new E-Class.

Stay tuned as development continues.

There has been no shortage of Mercedes-Benz E-Class spy shots. The automaker is readying a complete redesign of the model, but we haven’t seen much of it. Camouflage and cladding have hidden its new design, although we don’t expect the vehicle to receive a substantial styling change. Instead, the E-Class will likely receive an evolutionary design update, and new, unofficial renderings from Kolesa.ru preview what the model could look like when it debuts.

The renderings depict a svelte-looking sedan with a familiar shape and greenhouse. Up front, the E-Class wears a smaller grille flanked by slimmer headlights. It looks like a shrunken S-Class, which isn’t a bad thing. The rear-end rendering highlights even subtler changes. Camouflage has kept the rear well-hidden, but the rendering portrays slim taillights sitting above a rear bumper that doesn’t look that different from the current car. The E-Class in the rendering looks slimmer and sleeker than the model it’s replacing.

The renderings don’t depict the car’s interior, but recent spy shots provided a great glimpse at the cabin’s styling. The interior appears to have a dual-screen setup like the S-Class, with one placed in front of the driver and the other on the IP stack. It should fit nicely between the C-Class and S-Class interiors and offer the latest driver-assist features.

Powertrain details are under wraps, but we expect Mercedes to electrify many of them, with mild-hybrid gas and diesel engines being the workhorses. Electrification will likely include a plug-in hybrid model as well. Downsizing will also come to the AMG variants, with the V8 likely disappearing as the company embraces high-powered hybrid powertrains.

Check Out The E-Class Spy Shots:

The automaker hasn’t specified when it will reveal the new E-Class. Mercedes gave the E-Class a makeover last year, but the model is quite old for the lineup. Mercedes launched the current-generation E-Class in 2016. We hope to see the new model debut before the end of the year. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t happen until early 2023. And we’ll likely have to wait to learn about the AMG variants.

Given that the facelifted version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class was only introduced in 2021, we're not expecting the automaker to release the next-generation model soon. However, that doesn't mean that Stuttgart couldn't care less about its midsize sedan. Spotted several times before, another E-Class prototype has been spied while waiting at a red light in Germany, courtesy of YouTube's walkoARTvideos.

The Mercedes E-Class prototype that we're seeing on the video atop this page is largely similar to the one we saw at the Nürburgring back in April. Still heavily concealed, the sedan does provide little clues about the changes employed by the German marque.

The spy video above provides a close look at the upcoming sedan's details. The LED daytime running lights above double as turn signals, while it looks like the headlights wrap around the corners despite being hidden under wraps. The grille and front badge are disguised for now, though we can expect some air inlets on the lower bumper, also hiding under the camouflage. The black alloys look generic, though, so we're not expecting this set on the production model.

On the sides, only a few character lines are apparent through the wraps, though the proportions are clear – there is a short rear deck, while the tailpipes aren't visible. Most of the taillight elements are hidden away from prying eyes.

The Current, Outgoing Version:

There haven't been spy shots or videos of the next E-Class's interior, though we can expect niceties from the S-Class to trickle down to the midsize model. This means more screens and more driver-assist features are coming our way.

Meanwhile, powertrain details are scarce at this point. A plug-in hybrid has been spotted before, though mild-hybrid turbocharged gas and diesel versions are also expected. The high-end AMG variants will likely get electrically assisted, turbocharged four-pot powertrains.

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class is expected to debut towards the end of 2023 or even in early 2024.

Will there be a 2023 Mercedes E

2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Changes - Find the best Mercedes-Benz deals! The wide-ranging E-Class line, which includes a standard sedan, coupe, cabriolet, and wagon plus AMG performance versions, has only mild changes for 2023.

Is there a new Mercedes E

Mercedes only recently updated the current E-Class, so don't expect to see this new one revealed until around 2023.

Is 2022 E

Spy photographers have caught the next-generation E-Class during preproduction testing, so it's likely the new model will debut before the end of 2023. The automaker's electric E-Class sibling will be introduced in 2022. The EQE, as it's called, will come as the EQE 350 and EQE 500 4MATIC, both sedans.

When did the E

In 2013, the E-Class was comprehensively facelifted, featuring significant styling changes, fuel economy improvements and updated safety features. Daimler invested close to €1 billion into the development of the extensive refresh, making it likely the most expensive mid-life facelift in the history of the automobile.
