What is listening activity on Spotify?

Listening activity on Spotify Means, every time you listen to a song or a podcast Spotify keeps track of it. So that you can see what you have heard earlier. Also, with this activity, your followers can see what songs you are listening to in real-time.

Many of you want to share your listening activity with others, and also, there are many people out there who dont like to share their music with their followers. And to be honest, if you want to maintain some sort of secrecy, I dont think so; it should be a big deal to others.

I get it you have been searching for hours to solve your issue. Well, dont worry too much. In this guideline, I will tell you exactly how you can solve your problems.

How does Spotify listening activity work?

Spotify listening activity will tell your friends what songs you are currently listening to. And you can also see your friends activity via this feature.

Spotify is an application where you can stream songs and podcasts with a very nominal subscription fee. It has gained a lot of popularity lately as people are more into streaming services than ever.

Many people also subscribed to Spotify because they can use the application in the background. Unlike youtube, where you cannot do anything in the background. I guess people got frustrated with youtube and switched over to Spotify to listen to their favorite tune with peace.

And not just tunes. You can get weekly or daily podcasts on every matter in this world. Also, there are audiobooks available as well. Most of the time, I spend my time listening to Harry Potter audiobooks. Trust me, and there are some crazy narrators out there who can copy all of the voices of Harry Potter Movie World. And every time you listen to the audiobooks, it feels like you are watching the movie but with much more details on it.

Also, now there are videos available as well on Spotify. But the collection is not too big, probably because of copyright. Though the CEO of Spotify has promised in the future, there will be a bulk of new videos in the library.

I have discussed some of the prominent features of Spotify. Now you might be wondering what is the reason behind it?

Well, every time you listen to or play any of the features said above, your friends will see that on the listening activity log. Lets say you are listening to Blinding Lights be the weekend your friends will see that on friends activity. And in the same way, you can see the listening activity of the people you follow or your friends.

If you are listening to music or a podcast for 30 sec or longer, only then will it be counted as your listening activity. If you play a song for like 10 seconds or so, it will not be counted as your listening activity. All the songs you have swiped left and right? Well, dont worry. They are not enlisted as your listening activity.

Though you can only see what your friends are listening only through the desktop version of the Spotify application, but whatever you listen to on your mobile phone will be counted as a listening activity. On mobile, you cannot just see whatever your friends are listening to.

How to Share Spotify Listening Activity

You can share your listening activity with your friends both from the Desktop and mobile versions of the Spotify application.

I personally like to share my listening activity with my friends because I pick a lot of songs from my friends activities. Most of the time, all my friends listen to new songs or songs that are doing well on the leaderboard. So if I miss out on something because of my friends, I can just hop right it. And I want to do the same for my friends as well. Many of my friends have the same taste for music. If they dont have anything specific set on their minds, they just hear whatever I hear. And we can do that because of listening activity.
